Hi Mike:

I was REALLY been upset to see that Bookmark Sync & Sort was not
upgraded to FFv3.0. In fact, I delayed upgrading because this and
the Zotero add-ons weren't available.

Recently, though, Zotero *has* been updated and there's a new
toolbar available that shows a LOT of similarities to the Bookmark
Sync & Sort add-on.

Specifically, the new Ubimarks Toolbar allows us users to store
and use our own bookmarks and to update a central bookmark store
on one computer (for multiple users) or on a website (via WebDav
or FTP) whether it be your own or somewhere else.

I really liked the "store them where *YOU* want them" and
auto-update features and thought I'd lost them. Why? well, I don't
see that Foxmarks or any other online service needs to know what
*MY* personal bookmarks are - much less the marketing information
this data generates for them. Unfortunately, it's still in
development so your mileage (& satisfaction) may vary but I'm
willing to work with it to see what may come in future.

The other cool item I found in the process is BetterPrivacy, a
security item to combat the new marketing threat caused by
FlashPlayer's hidden perma-cookies. The new ".SOL" files get
stored in the Window$ $ystem folders where we can't get at them
easily, and normally, can't delete or manage them either. Most
folks don't know about this new perma-cookie, and the usual
"cookie management" utilities in FF and other apps aren't aware of
this class of "market constituent identifier" (my own sarcastic
term).

What the heck are Flash Cookies anyway?

computer's death diminishes me, losing forever the precious

whom the computer crashed; It crashes for thee.

Subject: [Internet SIG] Firefox 3 and Extensions

I reckon it would likely look bad that the Internet SIG leader
hasn't upgraded Firefox to version 3 yet! But I'm leery about the
compatibility of the extensions I have installed, especially after
so many of the ones I had broke when I moved from FF 1.5 to 2.0.
If you have upgraded, I would like to hear about your experience.

Thanks,
Mike
