Hi Chris:

You might be a victim of a recent Window$ Update. It screwed up a
bunch of connections for ZoneAlarm Users, including Internet
access.

 *  See MS Update article: MS08-037 (953230)
 *  See WindowsSecrets Issue 162; 2008-07-31; Paid edition;
    http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/080731

>From your description, it seems only one of the networks is
affected though I'm not sure that I'd be using ZoneAlarm on every
machine in the network. It'd be redundant if you already have a
gateway machine handling VPN & I'net access.

That leaves me less sure that this is part of the problem but I
think it still bears checking out.

    <<On Monday, for some reason...>>

This remains the best clue I see. Something changed between
Thursday and Monday though it's hard to tell which end was
changed.

Subject: [Windows SIG] VPN suddenly quit working

We have an office in Austin and an office in Albuquerque. Both
locations are running Linksys RV082 routers. Firmware was upgraded
on both a couple months ago.

The guy before me set up a VPN between the two offices. Users in
ABQ can see the file servers in AUS. Users in AUS can see the
servers in ABQ.
Both are running Windows networks with separate domains at each
site.

On Monday, for some reason, ABQ users could no longer see files on
the AUS servers. They can see the servers in Windows. AUS users
can see the ABQ servers and files, however.

I have talked to a couple people in ABQ. We are all trying to
figure out what has changed. As far as we know, nothing has
changed.

I can access the AUS office from home via VPN just fine.

Does anyone have any idea as to why the ABQ users can no longer
see the files on the AUS servers?

Thank you.

Chris
