From dierdorf at io.com Mon Nov 9 06:18:29 2009 From: dierdorf at io.com (John Dierdorf) Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2009 07:18:29 -0500 Subject: [Linux SIG] November Linux SIG Meeting Message-ID: <200911090618.29538.dierdorf@io.com> This month's meeting will be on Tuesday the 10th at the usual time and place -- 8109 Greenslope, 6 PM informal and 7 PM formal presentation. Snacks and coffee will be provided. This month we have the official version of Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). I have CDs available in all four flavors -- 32 and 64-bit, Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Even if you don't need one, take it and give it to a friend who is still using Windows. I'm busy teaching myself Inkscape and Scribus, so by December or January I should be able to do a halfway-competent presentation on Desktop Publishing under Linux if anybody is interested. See you Tuesday. -- John Dierdorf Austin, TX www.io.com/~dierdorf From dierdorf at io.com Sun Nov 29 13:08:47 2009 From: dierdorf at io.com (John Dierdorf) Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:08:47 -0600 Subject: [Linux SIG] Karmic Koala Bible Message-ID: <200911291308.47735.dierdorf@io.com> Somebody with WAY too much time on their hands put together this 54-page PDF called the"Ubuntu Karmic Koala Bible", covering all sorts of useful stuff about installation and setup. Other than the fact that it's British English, I found it quite usable. Download it from http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-incredible-guide-to-ubuntu-karmic-koala- linux-pdf/ (That URL is all one line, of course.) It's a 1.4MB download. PS -- No, I am NOT going to print out copies, bind them, and have them available at the December SIG meeting! :-) You're on your own. -- John Dierdorf Austin, TX www.io.com/~dierdorf
