Once upon a time (back in the early days of this club) there was a
standing, if unwritten, policy that a SIG leader would step up and
substitute for a speaker at the general meeting whenever necessary.  This
had the benefit of showing off the accomplishments of the various SIGs
and often recruiting new members for the club as well as for the SIG that
put on the program.  

Nothing turns off people like showing up for a meeting that they expect,
only to find that it has been canceled at the last minute.
